How to Use Your Superbiome System (Hint: Do Less)
Minimal inputs. Maximum repair.

Here's what most skincare brands won't tell you: they don't know your skin. They can't. They made one formula, put it in nice packaging, and told everyone it works for "all skin types." That's not personalization. That's mass production with better marketing.
The Superbiome System works differently.
When you take the Milieu skin assessment, we don't hand you a generic three-step routine. We analyze your skin's specific concerns, your microbiome test results, your sensitivity, your barrier status, your inflammation levels, your real-time climate. Then we recommend products from a library of targeted ingredients, each selected because it matches your biology precisely. Not someone else's. Yours.
Your cleanser isn't the same as your friend's cleanser. Your serum addresses your specific problem areas with ingredients chosen for your skin's tolerance. Your moisturizer is calibrated to your barrier needs.
You can see your full personalized system, every product, every ingredient, and your custom usage instructions, in the Milieu web app or the Milieu iOS app.
But the products are only half the equation. How you use them matters just as much as what's in them.
The Philosophy: Why Less Is the Whole Point
There are three principles behind the Superbiome System. If you get these, everything else clicks.
Do less. Every product you apply shifts your skin's microbial equilibrium and affects barrier integrity. Most of the time, your skin doesn't need intervention. It needs to be left alone. The hardest part of this system is trusting that.
Use with intention. Your products should be a response to something real, not a reflexive habit. You don't take medicine every morning "just in case." Your skin routine should work the same way. When there's a reason, act. When there isn't, don't.
Support the ecosystem. Healthy skin isn't "oil-free." It isn't poreless or matte or whatever ads tell you it should be. Healthy skin is microbiologically stable. It has a functioning barrier, a balanced microbial community, and the resilience to handle stress without falling apart. That's what your personalized products are designed to support.
Step 1: Cleanse (Rarely)
This is where most people's instincts are completely wrong.
Your Superbiome Cleanser is not a daily cleanser. It's a reset tool. You reach for it when your skin has actually been exposed to something it needs help recovering from. That's it.
Use it after: Smoking. Pollution exposure. Heavy sweating. Makeup. Or when you genuinely feel dirty.
Don't use it: Every morning. Every night. "Just because." Out of habit. Because you think you're supposed to.
Over-cleansing is one of the fastest ways to destroy beneficial microbes and weaken your skin barrier. Every time you wash your face when it doesn't need washing, you're stripping away organisms that were actively protecting you.
The specific cleanser in your system was chosen because its active ingredients match your concerns without overwhelming your skin's tolerance. That's why your cleanser might be different from someone else's. But regardless of which one you were matched with, the rule is the same: if your skin feels fine, skip it. That's not laziness. That's the protocol. Your instructions for use (found in the "routine" section of your report) will automatically update as your skin changes, based on daily face scans and the changing environment around you ("environment" section within "skin" tab).
Step 2: Target (As Needed)
Your Superbiome Serum is precision repair. It was selected based on your specific concerns, whether that's redness, pigmentation, texture, acne, or barrier damage. The active ingredients in your serum are dosed for your skin's sensitivity level and microbial diversity + biome type, which is why usage instructions vary from person to person.
Apply it only where you need it: Problem zones. Dry patches. Irritated areas. Wherever the barrier feels compromised.
How to use it: Once daily, as needed. Spot treat rather than full-face application. If your personalized instructions say to start slowly, start slowly. That's not a suggestion.
The instinct is always to use more. Resist it. You're addressing specific problems in specific areas, not carpet-bombing your face with actives and hoping for the best. Your custom instructions in the app tell you exactly how to use your serum for your skin. Follow them.
Step 3: Stabilize (Daily)
Your Superbiome Moisturizer is the foundation of the entire system. If you only use one product, make it this one.
Use it every morning. Use it every night. No exceptions.
While your cleanser and serum are situational, the moisturizer is daily because its job is ongoing: maintaining barrier integrity, balancing transepidermal water loss, and supporting microbial equilibrium. Your moisturizer was matched to your hydration needs and barrier status, so it's doing specific work even when it doesn't feel like it.
Your skin's ecosystem needs a stable environment to function. This provides it. Everything else in the system is built around it.
What This Looks Like Day to Day
Your personalized instructions are always available in the Milieu app, but here's how the system plays out in practice.
A Normal, Low-Stress Day
Morning: Moisturizer.
Night: Moisturizer. Add your serum only if something specific needs attention.
No cleanser. Your skin didn't do anything that requires one.
After a High-Exposure Day
Night: Cleanser first (you were actually exposed to something). Targeted serum on any problem areas. Moisturizer.
Next day: back to the minimal protocol. One rough day doesn't mean you escalate permanently.
Sensitive Skin Mode
Morning: Moisturizer.
Night: Moisturizer. Minimal serum if necessary, and only on specific spots.
Avoid the cleanser unless something genuinely requires it. Sensitive skin needs fewer inputs, not more.
Your Products Are Already Waiting
When you complete the Milieu skin assessment, we match you with products selected for your biology and nothing extra. No filler steps. No "recommended add-ons." No upselling you a seven-product routine when three will do.
Inside the web app or the iOS app, you'll find your personalized system with every ingredient listed, why each product was selected for you, and specific instructions tailored to your skin's sensitivity, microbiome, concerns, and tolerance levels.
Because generic instructions are just as useless as generic products.
The Rule of the Superbiome
If your skin is calm, do less.
That's it. That's the whole rule.
The system works because it respects what your skin already knows how to do. Your microbiome has been regulating itself for hundreds of thousands of years. It doesn't need to be managed into submission with a bathroom counter full of products. It needs a stable foundation, targeted support when something goes wrong, and the space to do its job.
Your products were chosen for your skin. Your instructions were written for your life. The mission is supporting your skin's natural balance. The rest is restraint.
More restraint. Less disruption. Better skin.
That's the Superbiome System.
Put this into practice
Your skin is its own ecosystem. The fastest way to see what's actually living on yours — and what your routine should look like — is the Superbiome microbiome test.
