Fermentation
Fermented skincare
Fermentation is the oldest biotechnology on earth. Superbiome uses it to make skincare, and uses modern microbiome science to match it to your skin.
What fermented skincare is
Fermented skincare is made by letting microbes do the chemistry. Instead of extracting an ingredient from a plant and using it as-is, fermentation feeds botanicals and cultured cells to carefully chosen microbes. Over days, not seconds, they transform those raw materials into new compounds: smaller, more stable molecules, postbiotic ferment filtrates, and actives that did not exist in the starting ingredient at all.
The idea is ancient. Fermentation has preserved food and transformed raw ingredients for thousands of years, and skin was part of that world the whole time. What is new is doing it deliberately for skin, in a lab, and matching the result to an individual.
Why fermentation changes what skin can use
Skin is picky about what it absorbs. Many raw botanical compounds are too large, too unstable, or too irritating to do much on the surface. Fermentation breaks large molecules into smaller ones that penetrate more readily, produces acids and enzymes that gently condition the skin, and yields ferment filtrates rich in the byproducts skin recognizes, because they resemble what its own microbes make.
That last part matters. Your skin already hosts a working microbial ecosystem, and it runs on microbial chemistry. Fermented formulas speak that language instead of stripping it away.
How Superbiome makes it personal
Fermentation is the process; matching is the product. Superbiome starts with a skin microbiome test that DNA-sequences the microbes living on your skin. Our research platform reads that profile alongside your visible skin metrics and your climate, then matches you to fermented formulas whose actives fit what your skin needs now, and adjusts as your biology and environment change. The science behind it is the same one guiding every formula we make: microbes transform botanicals and cultured cells into the actives, and your data decides which ones reach your shelf.
Fermented ingredients you will see in our formulas
Superbiome formulas draw on ferments like saccharomyces (a yeast ferment used for its skin-conditioning filtrate), lactobacillus ferment (a postbiotic that supports a balanced surface ecosystem), and marine and sea silt ferments rich in minerals and amino acids. Every formula is fermented in our lab and matched, never mass-assigned.
